The Groundcrew API

»Realtime and geodata are all the rage, and mobile messaging is increasingly the way to reach people. Here at Citizen Logistics, we apply these trends to neighborhoods, events and community interactions. Create apps around realtime availability in your community, and make community connections quickly. Welcome to the world of RESTful organizing.

Here are some examples in ruby, using our quick wrapper around rest-client and yajl:

HOWTO: Invite nearby twitter followers to a party

HOWTO: Connect via email and SMS, and then hover over a location

HOWTO: Sign up more people up with a signup sheet

Are there bored people in London who might want to join?

Gather people in teams of six who want to hold signs

Do all of this while tracking exactly how much community you create, how many strangers you link, and how many people’s day you can make.

More to know:

  • Twitter followers are by default accessible for only 1h after they update twitter with geolocation
  • SMS followers are accessible any time
  • Access to bored public twitter users is available by request and only to trusted parties
  • Adding users via SalesForce and Salsa is also possible
  • Facebook Fan support is coming soon
  • Events are actually runnable programs in a language called CEML that knows how to issue invites, exchange information, deal with new people, ask for reviews, and more.
  • Read more about the API on our wiki, and more about CEML at this blog post
